Christmas Season Kicked Off in Style with
Dickens Night Switch On |
|
Members of the Civilian Committee and Squadron staff manned one of the large number of stalls in the Atherstone Market Square as an estimated 10,000 revellers piled into the streets to enjoy the massive North Warwickshire event. The Squadrons Civilian Committee ran a Tombola and sold tickets for the Squadrons Christmas Raffle whilst members of staff were on hand to tell potential recruits and their parents all about life in the Air Cadets. All the stalls and street entertainment of the Dickens Night set a perfect prelude to the towns Christmas lights switch on, which was conducted by the Mayor of Atherston, Cllr Ruby Chambers. The evening's entertainment ended with a grand musical firework finale which lit up the night sky to herald the start of the Christmas season. John Newbury, Chairman of the Squadrons Civilian Committee said, "This is the first year that we've taken part in the Dickens Night event. It's been a very successful evening from both the fundraising and public relations perspectives as well as being an ideal opportunity for Committee and uniformed staff to get together."
