The sweet sound of success was definitely ringing in the ears of the Nuneaton based Air Cadets this weekend as their band managed to clinch their second competition victory in two weeks.

Fresh with the achievement of having been declared the best marching band in the Nuneaton Carnival precession on Sunday 15 th June, the band of 121 (Nuneaton) Squadron Air Training Corps managed to pull off a second 1 st place victory during the Warwickshire & Birmingham Wing field day on the 22 nd June.

The Wing Field Day which was held at Gamecock Barracks Bramcote near Nuneaton saw the 121 Squadron band successfully defend its title in the best overall band competition for the sixth year in succession. The bans Fanfare section also managed to retain its title for a second year.

The reviewing officer, Central and East Regional Commandant, Group Captain Morrell thanked the 121 Squadron Fanfare section for the general salute which heralded his arrival at Gamecock Barracks.

The Wing Field day is a big event for all the cadets and staff of the Squadron who take part in a wide variety of different competitions. The 121 Squadrons aircraft modelling, first aid and aircraft recognition teams performed well in their events and the drill team put on a magnificent display, something to be proud of. 121 Squadron also managed to win the Wing Media Communications competition for the fifth year running.

Flight Lieutenant Ian Crewe Officer Commanding 121 ( Nuneaton ) Squadron said, "Winning two band competitions in as many weeks is a just reward for all the hard work the cadets and staff have put in to the squadrons musical activities. So many of the cadets who were in the band last year are no longer with us. We have managed to recruit some new cadets who have joined the band and they have all worked so hard to get ready for this competition. It's remarkable when you consider that most of them had never played an instrument or had an interest in music until they joined the cadets. I just hope we can repeat this sort of success when we go on to represent the Warwickshire and Birmingham Wing in September at the regional competitions at Royal Air Force Wittering”.

One of the competitions at this years Wing Field Day was to produce a set of posters for Air Cadet and Adult Volunteer recruitment. 121 Squadron's entries didn't win the competition but we thought you may like to have a look at our ideas or perhaps use our posters in your own Squadrons recruitment campaigns.
