The sweet sound of success was once again ringing in the ears of the Nuneaton based Air Cadets during the Warwickshire & Birmingham Wing field day on Sunday 14 th June as their band managed to successfully defend its title in the best overall band competition for the seventh year in succession.
The Wing Field day is a big event for all the cadets and staff of the Squadron who take part in a wide variety of different competitions. The 121 Squadrons first aid and aircraft recognition teams performed well in their events and the drill team put on a magnificent display, something to be proud of. 121 Squadron also managed to win the Wing Media Communications Mills Trophy for the sixth year running as well as the staff sections of the Media Communications, Minibus Livery Design project and the Photographic competition.
The reviewing officer, Commandant of Air Cadets, Air Commodore Ian Stewart, presented Drum Major, Cadet Grant Robey, of the 121 (Nuneaton) Squadron Band with the Warwickshire & Birmingham Wing band competition trophy. And during his final address Air Commodore Stewart thanked the 121 Squadron band for providing the music for the final parade.
Flight Lieutenant Ian Crewe Officer Commanding 121 ( Nuneaton ) Squadron said, "Winning band competition again is a just reward for all the hard work the cadets and staff have put in to the squadrons musical activities. The display the band put on this year for the competition included a selection of new music including our own renditions of some Elvis and Beatles classics , which have recently been added to the repertoire for the 2009 season. I just hope we can repeat this sort of success when we go on to represent the Warwickshire and Birmingham Wing in September at the regional competitions at Royal Air Force Wittering". |
