classroom based radio skills put to the test
The exercise which involved 9 mobile units using hand held radios was designed to test the cadets basic radio communications skills and accuracy of message transmission in field conditions. The e xercise also required the cadets to put their classroom based navigation skills to the test in the field as they received radio messages containing grid references and bearings for each waypoint on the training ground. Just to make it interesting the cadets were periodically diverted from their original objectives as members of staff transmitted new instructions to each team requiring them to complete additional tasks. Squadron Training Officer Flt Lt Paul Hincks said “Gamecock Barracks training ground is an ideal venue for these radio exercises. With the prospect of 30 Signals Regiment listening in to our transmissions the cadets are well aware that they have to stick rigidly to correct RT procedures. I am delighted to say that by the end of the exercises our operators were confidently transmitting clear and precise messages.” |

On Friday 09th May 23 cadets from 121 (Nuneaton) squadron conducted a radio navigation exercise within the field training area of the 30 Signals Regiment base at Gamecock Barracks near Nuneaton.
