A fitting farewell with full military honours for another local hero

Sergeant Simon ValentineFor the second time in as many weeks, members of 121 ( Nuneaton ) Squadron joined the ranks of mourners from their home town as they turned out to line the funeral procession route in honour of yet another local hero, Sergeant Simon Valentine, Bedworth farther-of-two, who regrettably became the 201 st member of the British armed forces to be killed in Afghanistan .

On the 10 th September, Members of 121 (Nuneaton) Squadron once again joined hundreds of local people, members of the armed forces, Ex-Service Associations and an impressive array of 48 Standards as Sergeant Simon Valentine of the 2nd Battalion the Royal Regiment of Fusiliers and former Army Cadet was laid to rest with full military honours at All Saints Church in Bedworth.

Flight Lieutenant Paul Hincks of 121 ( Nuneaton ) Squadron said, “The deaths of Sergeant Simon Valentine and that of Fusilier Louis Carter who's funeral we attended last week have deeply touched the local community. Once again the reality of the conflict in Afghanistan has hit a family from the heart of our own community here in Bedworth. It was right and proper that we joined the people not only from Nuneaton & Bedworth but across the country who turned out today to pay their respects to Sergeant Simon Valentine and show support for his family and friends. Our thoughts also go out to the members of the Nuneaton detachment of the Army Cadet Force who have sadly lost two of their former comrades".
