Cadets from 1289 ( Stratford-upon-Avon ) Squadron Air Training Corps recently had their achievements celebrated at their annual dinner dance. Every year in April 1289 Squadron holds a formal dinner dance organised by current cadets and staff. This year's celebration took place on Friday 18 th April at the Falcon Hotel in Stratford and was attended by almost a hundred guests including: cadets and ex-cadets, families, members of the Civilian Committee, adult staff and other guests of honour including the new Mayoress, Cllr. Joyce Taylor.
As part of the celebrations, awards were presented to the cadets for a variety of different achievements. These awards included Best Cadet, Best New Recruit and Best Junior Cadet. Flight Sergeant Chantal Edwardes also received a very special award from the Wing Commander of Warwickshire and Birmingham Wing, Wg. Cdr. P. Ladwa, who chose Flt. Sgt. Edwards as the Best Cadet in our Wing. Members of the Squadron would also like to express their gratitude to Wg. Cdr. Mills for presenting the awards.
F/S Chantal Edwardes was presented with awards for: Best Cadet on squadron, Best NCO organisation and Best Cadet in the Wing. Sgt Tom Compton Received the Heart and Soul of the Squadron award. Cpl Sophie Bennett received the Best All Round Achievement award. Cdt Phil Smith received the Best Young Cadet award. The Best Junior Cadet award was given to Cdt George Edwardes. Cdt Max Roberts was presented with the Best New Recruit of 2007 award. Cdt (now Cpl) John Hitchins was given the Best Technical Cadet award and finally Cpl Kate Jacka received the Best Sports Cadet award. Also one of the squadrons ex-cadets (now Leading Aircraftswoman) LAC Ashley Smith was presented with her Gold Duke of Edinburgh badge after doing all of her D of E expeditions and work through the ATC |
