Air Cadets go Navy on tall ship sailing expedition

Cadet Sergeant Amy Griffin (Right) on the TS Royalist Six days of force 7 winds and 5 international maritime ports visited, Cadet Sergeant Amy Griffin of 1368 Air Training Squadron, volunteered herself to undertake a mammoth personal challenge by sailing a voyage on the TS Royalist.

Amy Griffin a sixth form student at Kingsley School, Leamington Spa was selected from thousands of Air Cadets from all over the Central & East region to take part in a 6 day voyage on the Royal Navy's 23 Metre training ship, which hosts 2 incredible 12 metre masts.

Amy's exceptional voyage took her from the Royal Naval Base, HMS Dolphin in Gosport on a familiarization sail to Portsmouth before heading out into the open seas with new challenges ahead, the sailing expedition took her Cherbourg in France, Alderney in the Channel Islands and Cowes in the Isle of White before making their final journey back to HMS Dolphin, Gosport.

Cadet Sergeant Griffin said "What an extraordinary experience and privilege to be chosen to sail on board the Royal navy's Finest training Sailing Ship, my personal achievement was climbing the 23metre mast in rough seas before hanging down and assisting the sail up the mast, but my best experience was taking the helm and driving the ship towards home, a great feeling".
