22 Cadets from 121, 487, 489, 493, 495, 1289 & 1459 Squadrons and 6 Staff from the Wing recently attended the National Air Cadet Adventure Training Centre; Windermere.
The centre is situated just 5 minutes walk from the centre of Windermere, itself virtually in the centre of the Lake District National Park. It has room for 30 cadets (20 male/ 10 female) and has full catering facilities. It is staffed by the only MIA qualified instructor in the Air Cadet organisation. There is no age limit to attend the centre.
The purpose of the camp was to extend the cadets skills at Navigation, and introduce them to a new training area. Whilst at the centre, Cadets participated in High level walking, Rock Climbing/Abseiling, Scrambling, Orienteering, and Mountain Biking. All activities were organised and supervised by fully qualified instructors.
The highlight of the week for some was the visit to Keswick Climbing Wall, whereas for others, it was the opportunity to walk the High fells. All the Cadets, and most of the staff(!) said that they would like the opportunity to visit the centre next year. |
