Sunday 13 th November marked a somber occasion for 163 (Coventry-Phoenix) squadron as cadets and staff assembled for the remembrance parade that took place in the memorial park in Coventry.
Ex and current service personnel as well as other cadet forces formed up alongside the squadron in preparation for the march from Spencer Avenue to the memorial park. On arrival at the park the remembrance party surrounded the cenotaph and stood ready for the service which was led by the Bishop of Coventry to begin. During this service Cadet Warrant Officer Tabram read aloud a line from the Exhortation. At precisely 11.00 am and preceded by the playing of The Last Post not a sound could be heard as all Honoured The Two Minutes Silence.
As the two minute silence concluded participant and spectators of the parade looked on as the wreath bearers stepped up to The Cenotaph to lay their Wreaths. The Wreath for No 163 (Coventry-Phoenix) Squadron was placed by Flight Lieutenant Les Vile RAFVR(T) the squadron’s commanding officer.
Once all organisations involved had paid their respects and laid their respective wreaths the service ended with the singing of the national anthem. Following this the parade marched back to the form up point paying respects as they passed the dignitaries position.
Flight Lieutenant Les Vile, Officer Commanding No 163 (Coventry-Phoenix) Squadron said. “The cadets conducted themselves in an exemplary manner and are a credit to their parent, themselves, the squadron and the Air Training Corps.”
