An early start on Saturday 2 nd July 2011 saw six cadets from
No 163 (Coventry-Phoenix) Squadron boarding a minibus bound for RAF Waddington to take in the spectacle of the 2011 Airshow.
Owing to the popularity of this event, a delay in getting into RAF Waddington was expected and this was to be the case as the cadets were in for a slight wait as they waited patiently along with the thousands of other visitors to gain entry into one of the United Kingdoms premier Air Shows.
With excitement growing as the bus drew closer to the gates, it wasn’t long after that, that the cadets, some of whom attended last years Air Show, were soon walking amongst the static displays of aircraft that had been flown in to represent Military and Civilian Air Services from around the world, as well as those from Great Britain.
Having only seen photographs as part of their Aircraft Recognition training, to be able to view these aircraft closely provided the cadets with an experience that they would never forget.
Following lunch and a brief rest, the cadets viewed more of the aircraft as well as the merchandise stands, whilst keeping their eyes to the skies to watch the varying displays that were ongoing throughout the day.
With the day soon over as quickly as it began, the cadets were once more back on the minibus for the journey home after a day that has been described by some as being one of the most enjoyable that they have had.
Officer Commanding No 163 (Coventry-Phoenix) Squadron Flight Lieutenant Les Vile RAFVR(T) said, “In addition to the standard Core Activities, we are always looking at ways of providing our cadets with activities that will prove to be memorable for them.”
He went onto say; “By making it possible for them to attend this event, we have achieved this goal.”
