No 163 (Coventry-Phoenix) Sqn had a double reason to celebrate at this year's Wing Training Day, following the receipt of two sporting accolades.
Having played all their matches with great skill and positivity, The Squadron's Netball Team were crowned Netball Champions 2009 after fending off some very worthy opponents.
The team of Cadet Flight Sergeant E Whittle, Cadet Corporal E Tabram, Cadet, H Hughes, Cadet E Messam and Cadet P Whittle lead the Squadron to victory at the Championships which were played out in May.
However, the success was not to end here as with one Trophy firmly within the Squadrons grasp, a second award was also soon to be heading their way.
Showing true dedication, as all the Squadrons Cadets do, the Squadron achieved another first with the joint award of Female Sports Cadet of The Year going to Cadet Flight Sergeant E Whittle and Cadet P Whittle.
Flight Lieutenant L Vile RAFVR(T), Officer Commanding 163 Squadron said; “seeing Cadet Flight Sergeant Whittle receiving the Netball Trophy from Air Commodore I R W Stewart BSc RAF, Commandant Air Cadets on behalf of the Team and Squadron and then Cadet Flight Sergeant E Whittle and Cadet P Whittle receiving the joint award of Female Sports Cadet of The Year were truly proud moments for me. The Girls have worked very hard and the award of this Trophy and Title of Netball Champions 2009 is thoroughly deserved as is the award of joint Female Sports Cadet of The Year”.
