On Wednesday 3 rd March 2010 , in the Council Chamber of the Birmingham Council Office, Cadet Flight Sergeant Steve Wright of 165 (Castle Bromwich) Squadron was formally Invested as the Warwickshire & Birmingham Wing's Lord Lieutenant of the West Midlands Cadet.
Flight Sergeant Wright is one of 6 Lord Lieutenant's Cadets for the West Midlands County along with one Sea Cadet Corps (SCC) representative, two Army Cadet Force (ACF) Representatives, one Combined Cadet Force (Army Section) (CCF) Representative and two Air Training Corps (ATC) representatives, one from Staffordshire Wing and one from Warwickshire & Birmingham Wing.
The evening actually started two days earlier with a rehearsal on Monday 1 st March for all of the ‘players' involved. This gave everyone an opportunity to see inside the Council House and find their way around this very large and impressive building. Fortunately no one got lost and everyone found where they would need to be on the Wednesday at the Ceremony itself.
The formal process started with the arrival of the Lord Lieutenant of the West Midlands , Sir Paul Sabapathy CBE, who is the Queen's Official Representative in the County. He was met at his car by the official ‘door-openers' from the Army Cadet Force and a Trumpet Fanfare courtesy of the Band of 194 (BSA) Squadron Air Training Corps, under the leadership of Flight Lieutenant Bob Eccles, the Officer Commanding 194 Squadron and a former Officer Commanding 165 Squadron.
The Lord Lieutenant then inspected the Guard of Honour which was formed from the Warwickshire ACF and 165 Squadron, under the command of Warrant Officer Jerry Elston of 165 Squadron.
After the initial ‘meet and greet' in the Drawing Room the ‘players' moved on into the Council Chamber itself for the actual Investiture Ceremony.
The Investiture followed the normal precedent of the SCC, the ACF then the ATC with each Cadet having a Citation read out on their behalf with the Lord Lieutenant making a presentation to each Cadet.
Following the presentations to the Cadets the Lord Lieutenant then gave a short address to all of the ‘players' and their families as well as all of the Cadets and Staff from the different Forces.
With another Trumpet Fanfare from 194 Squadron to accompany him, the Lord Lieutenant led the procession from the Council Chamber to the Banqueting Hall for the buffet that had been prepared for everyone. After a short interval the Lord Lieutenant was able to take part in a photo shoot with his appointed Cadets as well as the two Guards of Honour from the ACF and the ATC.
The Master of Ceremonies for the evening was Lieutenant Colonel Reeve from the ACF who has had the difficult task of co-ordinating the 6 different organisations for the event. Lt Col Reeve oversaw the whole evening which was a great success.
