Lord Lieutenant’s Cadet CWO Steve Wright on Parade

Cadet Warrant Officer Steve Wright, the Lord Lieutenant's Cadet for the West Midlands, undertook his first official duty on Monday 5 th July when he attended the Veterans Day at Swanshurst School in Hall Green with the Deputy Lord Lieutenant, Mr David Bradnock and Mr Len Gregory, the Lord Mayor of Birmingham.

Steve's day started at 8.45am when the chauffeur driven Jaguar XJ6 arrived at his home to collect him on the way to picking up the Deputy Lord Lieutenant and his wife before setting off to the school for the Veterans Day.

The day was supported by a huge number of Veterans Associations that included the Coldstream Guards Association, the Burma Star Association, the Royal tank Regiment Association, the Royal Air Forces Association and the Birmingham Air Raids Remembrance Association.

Following the Veterans march to the school half of the Year 9 pupils came into the school hall to talk with the Veterans about their experiences during the different wars they had been involved in. Then after lunch the other half of the Year 9 pupils got their opportunity to chat with the Veterans.

Local MP Steve McCabe spoke briefly to and thanked everyone who had attended on the day before everyone assembled outside on the grass for the day's Finale.

After the Last Post and Reveille had sounded the Deputy Lord Lieutenant, his wife and the Lord Lieutenant's Cadet all took their leave of the Veterans with Steve being dropped back home at the end of his first Official Duty.
