Over the two and a half weekends leading up to Remembrance Sunday, Air Cadets from the 165 Squadron Air Training Corps have been helping to raise money on behalf of the Royal British Legions Poppy Appeal 2007.
The Squadrons Commanding Officer, Flight Lieutenant James Martin said "The support that the cadets have shown for this very important charity is amazing. Last year we managed to raise £3058, and that was a new record then. This year we have smashed that record by raising £4364.27. This money all goes to the Royal British Legion to help the families and dependants of ex-service personnel. My thanks go to B&Q for allowing us to collect within the store and of course to all of their customers who have given so generously".
The Squadron went on to take part in two Parades on Remembrance Sunday. 6 cadets and Sgt Anita Tufft along with the Commanding Officer attended St Cuthbert's Church on Castle Vale and took part in the Wreath Laying Ceremony at the Memorial to 605 (County of Warwick) Squadron Royal Auxiliary Air Force. A further 16 cadets, Civilian Instructors Rob Willis and Jonny Ho along with Warrant Officer Elston attended the Firs Royal British Legion Parade at the Castle Bromwich Cenotaph. |
