Air Cadets hold their Annual Presentation Evening

Wing Commander Mills presents the Dave Lemm Outstanding Achievement Award to Flight Lieutenant Chris NewtonSaturday 6 th February at St Cuthberts Church Castle Vale was the venue for the Annual Presentation Evening of 165 (Castle Bromwich) Squadron, Air Training Corps.

The audience consisted of friends and families of the Cadets as well as a number of Officers from the Air Training Corps, who were all treated to a wonderful evening’s entertainment.

The Guest’s of Honour for the presentations to the Cadets were local councillor Lynda Clinton and Wing Commander Steve Mills, the Central & East Region Special Projects Officer.

After the Commanding Officer, Flight Lieutenant James Martin, had given his opening speech to the eager audience which highlighted the long list of achievements by the Cadets in 2009, it fell to Lynda Clinton to make the initial Presentations to the Cadets for their individual achievements throughout the previous year. These included attendance at Annual Camps as well as Promotions, Sporting events, Flying and Gliding and Adventure Training.

Following on from this Wing Commander Mills then made the 3 rd Place, Runner-up and Winners Presentations to the Cadets for the Jaguar Cars Sports Achievement Shield, The CVHAT Community Service Shield, the 605 (County of Warwick) Squadron RAuAF Flying Achievement Shield, the Air Commodore Pete Ollis Examination Trophy before going on to make the same presentations to the Recruit of the Year and the Cadet of the Year winners. This was followed by a final award on the evening and it was a special one indeed. The Dave Lemm Outstanding Achievement Award was presented to Flight Lieutenant Chris Newton, the Squadron’s 2 nd in Command, for having completed 25 years service with 165 Squadron. Chris’s name appears on the Award along with two other serving members of staff at 165 Squadron, Warrant Officer Jerry Elston and Civilian Instructor Mike Ward; the three of them having achieved a total of 115 years service with the Squadron.

Both Councillor Lynda Clinton and Wing Commander Steve Mills made brief speeches to the Families and Friends of the audience praising the Cadets and Staff of 165 Squadron and encouraging the cadets to continue with the good work.
