165 (Castle Bromwich) Squadron has recently seen the arrival and the departure of 'two Robs'!
Instructor Cadet Sergeant Robert Owen joined the Squadron in November 2001 and has just completed 6 years service. In that time he has participated in nearly everything that the ATC has to offer. He has completed both a Gliding Scholarship and a Flying Scholarship, completed his Bronze and Silver Duke of Edinburgh's Award and represented the Squadron in many different sporting activities. On his last parade night with the Squadron he was presented with his BTEC Certificate in Aviation Studies. Congratulations on all that you have achieved with us.
Robert is leaving the Squadron and joining the Royal Air Force in a technical role, starting Wednesday 28 th November at RAF Halton.
All at 165 Squadron would like to thank Robert for his loyalty to 165 and to wish him well for the future.
Rob Willis first joined 165 for the first time in March 2003 and rose to the rank of Cadet Sergeant before finishing at the grand old age of 20 in April 2006. In his time with the Squadron Rob took part in many activities including sports, and the Duke of Edinburgh's Award gaining his Bronze and Silver Awards. Rob's passion was shooting and he went on to attend the RAF Regiments week long Work Experience Camp in 2005, an event he enjoyed very much.
After a period of time away from the ATC Rob Willis decided that he was missing out on too much of the things he enjoyed and re-joined his old Squadron as a Civilian Instructor.
On the same night that Robert was presented with his BTEC Certificate, Rob was presented with his Civilian Instructor Appointment Certificate.
Flight Lieutenant James Martin OC 165 Squadron said, "It is good to see ex-cadets coming back to the ATC as Adult Staff, I am sure that Rob will be able to offer a great deal to the Squadron and we all look forward to him having a long career with the ATC. Robert Owen has been a loyal member of 165 Squadron for 6 years and we all wish him well in the RAF." |
