Cadets Help for BRMB Walkathon

Four Cadets from 165 (Castle Bromwich) Squadron, Air Training Corps, along with their Squadron Commander assisted with the BRMB Walkathon on Sunday 6 th June in Handsworth Park.

The event was once again held on the Outer Ring Road and Number 11 bus route and covers a distance of 26 miles from start to finish with the monies raised being divided between the new family facility at the QE Hospital and the Help for Heroes Charity.

The Cadets operated the Check-in Point for the Starters at Handsworth Park and also they were a welcome sight for the Family Walkathon finishers who had completed their six mile walk as well as the Half Walkathon contenders who had started at Kings Heath, some 13 miles away!

During a long day that started early the Cadets enjoyed good weather and were kept busy handing out free water supplied by Birmingham University Medical Faculty to the weary walkers.

Squadron Commander, Flight Lieutenant James Martin said “It was really good to see so many people supporting this important event in support of Help for Heroes and the new facility at the QE Hospital. The Cadets on duty for the day were constantly giving water and words of encouragement to the walkers throughout the day and were a credit to themselves and the Squadron. Even the rain that fell in the late afternoon didn't dampen their good spirits.”
