The band of 194 Squadron and cadets from 165 Squadron participated in the Remembrance Day Parade at Castle Bromwich on 13 November 2011, as they have done for many decades. For Flt Lt Bob Eccles, OC 194 (BSA) Squadron, who led the parade with 194’s band, it was his 20 th parade during the last 22 years, firstly as OC 165 Squadron, and latterly as OC 194.
The Minister read out the names of all those who gave their lives in two World Wars. He also referred to a recent fatality in Afghanistan, which brought home to all present the continuing sacrifices being made by members of the Armed Forces.
Flt Lt James Martin, OC 165, laid the ATC wreath at the memorial, and after the service, took the salute at the dais with Bob Eccles. 165 Squadron, as in previous years, had split responsibilities on Remembrance Day: they also provide staff and cadets at St Cuthbert’s Church, Castle Vale, to honour the 605 (County of Warwick) Squadron , Royal Auxiliary Air Force memorial, which is based there.
The parade was well attended by staff and cadets from both Squadrons, together with a large public turnout. After the parade, Firs RBL provided welcome refreshments (soon devoured by the cadets!) at the Arden Hall.
