On Saturday the 26 th June 2010 Cadets and Staff from 2028 Squadron were joined by the Cadet Band and Staff from 497 (Daventry) Squadron at the British Legion celebrations for Armed Forces Day at Napton on the Hill, Warwickshire.
British Legion Standards and the two Air Training Corps Banners were paraded through the Village, led by the Band from 497. There then followed a service to remember our Armed Forces and to also celebrate the 80 th year of the local Legion Branch. Many local people turned out for the service on the Village Green. The day was extremely hot and being held in the afternoon, everyone was well aware of the conditions and water was the order of the day for everyone.
Both before and after the ceremony numerous comments were made both by members of the British Legion and local residents on how proud they were that members of the Air Training Corps were able to take part in the parade. One lady commented that it was to their credit that they would give up their Saturday afternoon to show their support for our Armed Forces.
After the Service the parade marched off to resounding cheers from local residents and dignitaries, led by the Band from 497.
light Lieutenant Moreton, CO of 2028 Squadron, commented after the event, “Armed Forces Day has become an incredibly important day in the calendar for our Country and for the Cadets to be given the opportunity to play their part in today is very important. The Cadets readily gave their time to be here; both Daventry's Band and my cadets once again did us and the Corps proud.” |
