On Saturday the 26th November 2011 Cadets from 2028 Squadron did Bag-Packing at Tesco Supermarket in Southam to raise much needed funds.
The ten Cadets were accompanied by Flt Lt Moreton, WO Storer-Rogers and CI Dyer. The members of staff at the Supermarket were exceptionally pleased and welcoming to the Cadets who provided extra help at the tills which was warmly welcomed. The public also seemed very pleased with the help from the Cadets. The Cadets ran a rota system so each of them could take a break whilst still helping with the bag packing. As with the recent Poppy Appeal collection, the Cadets were complemented by several shoppers on their turnout and politeness. Once again everyone seemed to be more than willing to make a donation and more than one person commented on how smart and polite the cadets were. In fact quite a few customers declined help with their bags but still put money in the collecting tins.
Martina Fitzgerald, the Community champion for Tesco Southam, had offered the opportunity to the Squadron to be there on the Saturday as part of her continued liaison with the CO to help with the visibility of the Squadron in Southam. The Cadets worked extremely hard and there is no doubt the customers moved through the check outs quicker than usual.
Flight Lieutenant Moreton the CO of 2028 Squadron commented , ‘Bag packing is an excellent way of demonstrating to the public that the Cadets from the Air Training Corps are community spirited and willing to give up their spare time to raise funds for the Squadron. The public were very generous with their donations. My sincere thanks go to those Cadets who gave up their Saturday and of course the Staff.'
