On Sunday the 21st September 2008 Staff and Cadets from 2028 (Southam) Squadron, together with Cadets and Staff from 1368 (Warwick and Royal Leamington Spa) Squadron attended a Service at the Battle of Britain Memorial Plaque in Euston place Leamington Spa.
This year is the 68th Anniversary of the Battle of Britain and a similar much larger service was also held at Westminster Abbey in London.
The Service, at 1500 hours was arranged by the local Branch of the RAFA. The Memorial Plaque had been moved from Jephson Gardens to its new location alongside the Town War Memorial in September of 2007. Cadets and Staff had attended the re-dedication service last year so it was all the more important to be there this year to remember those who fought in the Battle of Britain during World War Two.
Members of the Town and District Councils and the RAFA were also present as a short Service was conducted under blue skies and glorious sunshine.
The Standards of the local Branches of the British Legion, Royal Naval Association and Royal Air Force Associations were present, together with the Banners from the two Air Training Corps Squadrons represented at the Service.
Flight Lieutenant Daryll Moreton, the Officer Commanding 2028 Squadron said after the Service, “Events like these are so important to the history of our Country and for Cadets and Staff from two Squadrons to turn out in such numbers truly demonstrates that the younger generation still appreciate the sacrifices made by the Airmen and women during what we have come to call the ‘Battle of Britain.’ “
