Recently 7 Cadets from 2028 Squadron at Southam have been awarded BTEC Certificates in Aviation Studies. This is a milestone in the career of any Cadet who completes their Academic studies in the Air Training Corps from joining as a Recruit through to gaining their Staff Cadet Qualification. All 7 Cadets have been in the Squadron for up to 6 years and the BTEC is a clear recognition of their achievements.
On Monday 11 th September 2006 during one of his visits to the Squadron, the Wing Personnel Officer, Squadron Leader Harrison, kindly agreed to present three of the Certificates. He said afterwards, “It is always a pleasure to visit Squadrons and an even greater pleasure to present these Certificates; they are a real reflection of the time and effort these young people devote to the Air Training Corps.”
These Certificates are accepted by future employers as a recognition of the hard work that Air Cadets put into what is, after all a ‘hobby’ to most of them and it should never be forgotten that they spend all day at School in a learning environment and then attend ATC twice a week and accept a whole lot more academic study. So it is a clear way of demonstrating to them that the Air Training Corps makes every effort to help them to get ahead both personally and professionally and prepare them for what we hope will be a successful future.
The Squadron Commander, Flight Lieutenant Moreton said, “it is a personal pleasure for me to see these young people develop into confident and determined individuals who, with a little help from us, can enter the world of employment with a certificate which, helps them into a career.”
