On Bank Holiday Monday the 3oth May 2011 five members of Staff and 11 Cadets from 2028 Squadron took the opportunity to take part in the annual Southam Town Carnival. Using the Wing marquee and other equipment they put up a Recruiting 'stand.' The day was wet for the most part with the unfortunate result that a lot of people stayed at home. The Carnival is organised every year by the local Branch of the Lions which has been very supportive of the Squadron over a number of years.

The Staff and Cadets set up and prepared the Recruiting Tent on the nearby recreation ground, together with many representatives of other local organisations from Southam. The Cadets took it in turns to work on the Recruiting ‘stand' and walk around the site with hand outs and other literature about the ATC. Two of the Cadets had arrived early to post notices around the Town about the Air cadets. Many of the Cadets had spent the last two parade nights preparing the photographs and other ‘items' ready for the Carnival.
During the afternoon, the weather calmed down a little becoming clearer and brighter but still with drizzle on and off, allowing everyone to get into the spirit of the day. There was the usual funfair and various activities going on throughout the day to keep those who braved the rain amused.
The day was a thorough success in that it presented another opportunity to remind the people of Southam, young and old, that their local Air Training Corps Squadron is alive and well and looking for new recruits. In fact once again, it was great to tell them that 2028 Squadron is not only flourishing, but maintaining its numbers and always looking for more Cadets. A number of young people expressed a real interest in visiting the Squadron on a Parade night.
The Mayor of the Town, Councilor Mike Gaffney, visited the stand and promised to do all he could to continue to advertise the Squadron. He took the opportunity to say once again how much he enjoyed the recent 70 th Anniversary Awards Ceremony and expressed his admiration for all the Air Cadets do in the Town.
Warrant Officer Storer-Rogers said after the event, "It was a really good day today with people braving the heavy rain at times. The Cadets were eager to show off what the Air Cadets can offer young people and tell them why they joined. We once again achieved our objective of being seen and taking the opportunity of inviting the youngsters of the Town to come along and see us and see more of what the ATC has to offer.”
