On Thursday the 3rd April 2008 two RAF Corporals from the Careers Office in Coventry attended the Squadron. Much to the amusement of the Cadets they followed on from the previous visit in June 2007 and continued with the slightly unorthodox approach adopted by their predecessor. Having introduced themselves to the Cadets and Staff they immediately gathered the Cadets together and facilitated a number of team-building exercises. One of these involved Cadets being required to touch in order the numbers 1 to 30 laid out on the floor with only one person being allowed in the circle at any one time. The added incentive was to do it in the fastest time to beat times achieved by other Squadrons. The cadets performed a number of other tasks during the evening all designed to make them think and work together as a team to solve the problem.
There is no doubt that their approach amused the Cadets but more importantly involved all of the Cadets throughout the visit. The two Corporals also took the opportunity to remind the Cadets that they were not at the Squadron to recruit people into the Royal Air Force but would be more than willing to return if any of them wanted to have a chat about careers in the RAF at some stage in the future. Every one present agreed that the visit was a total success and another one has been organised for later in 2008. Involving all of the Cadets all of the time was far more productive than someone standing in front of them and lecturing them on the Royal Air Force.
One of the senior Cadets commented that not only are these visits now very enjoyable but all the Cadets look forward to them which proves that the approach is right and they provide a real opportunity for everyone to work together in an organised but fun atmosphere.
Flight Lieutenant Moreton said afterwards, "These two Corporals came here tonight to present the Cadets with new and sometimes amusing methods of team building by involving all of them in some pretty interesting exercises. I was sat in my office and the enjoyment and hilarity was obvious for all to hear. The visit was a great success and built on the previous one we had in the middle of 2007."
