On Saturday the 6th June 2009 Cadets and Staff from 2028 Southam Squadron took part in the 65th Anniversary Celebrations at the British Legion Care Home, Galanos House, in Southam.

12 Cadets and Flight Lieutenant Moreton, the Squadron CO, formed the uniformed 'military' contingent at a service of remembrance attended by the residents of the Care Home, their relatives, staff and supporters. CI Halford and Sheryl Conran Brown also attended the occasion and everyone was able to mingle with the residents and others present.

Galanos House is one of a number of British Legion Care Homes around the Country which cares for Ex Servicemen and women and is an integral part of the life of the Town of Southam . Cadets from 2028 Squadron often visit the Care Home and simply chat to the residents, all part of their direct involvement in the local community.

2028 Squadron was able to parade their Squadron Banner alongside two British Legion Standards. On this occasion Cadet Sergeant Callum Brown had the honour of carrying the Squadron Banner. In fact this was his first time. During the service the Last Post was played, followed by Reveille and the National Anthem.

It was slightly disappointing for the Cadets who had rehearsed a Drill display for the occasion but due to the rain and cold it was decided that the residents should remain inside, however everyone present was delighted that the Air Cadets could be present and take a formal part in the service. The Cadets have been promised that an opportunity will be made in the future for them to return and give their Drill display!

Flight Lieutenant Moreton commented after the service, "Although the Cadets were a little disappointed at not being able to give their Drill display, they all enjoyed being a part of what is an important anniversary and recognising that so many of the residents had in fact taken part in the D-Day landings and the conflict both before and after."
