D of E Expedition to the Long Mynd

During the weekend Saturday 7th July to Sunday the 8th July 2007 Cadets and Staff from 2028 (Southam) Squadron went on a D of E Training Weekend in the Long Mynd, Shropshire.

The weekend had been organised by CI Rogers and for the most part the weather remained dry although it did rain on the Sunday. For two of the Cadets who attended the weekend it was their first taste of the Duke of Edinburgh's Award. It was a positive introduction to their Expedition training and they both came back, not only having enjoyed the experience but looking forward to the next expedition. Both of them are now able to qualify for their Actual Bronze Level Expedition.

One further Cadet completed his Bronze Expedition following his attendance at the Forest of Dean back in March of this year.

The two photographs show the Cadets at the top of Pole Bank, the highest point of the Mynd.

The weekend was a complete success and once again demonstrated the best use of Skills by the Squadron Staff, Pilot Officer Hicks and C I Rogers.

Flight Lieutenant Moreton, CO of 2028 Squadron commented, " All my Cadets and Staff know how committed I am to the Duke of Edinburgh's Award Scheme, so by continuing to arrange these weekends, it creates an environment which safely challenges the Cadets whilst developing their navigational abilities and achieving everything that the Duke of Edinburgh's Award stands for."
