2028 (Southam) Squadron is proud to announce that an Ex Cadet has been commissioned as a Sub Lieutenant in the Royal Navy. In 2008 he won the prestigious Annual Award of Young Technician of the Year after attending a Course at No 1 School of Technical Training at RAF Cosford. Engineers from all three services are trained at the School and to win his award he had to compete against 16 others during a three day intensive competition.
Ex Cadet ‘Dougie' Styles left 2028 Squadron to join the Royal Navy as an Engineer a number of years ago and has been working towards his Officer Training. He went to University to continue his training and was soon promoted to Petty Officer.
Sub Lieutenant Styles has joined 2028 Squadron on a number of occasions since he joined the Navy to help out at their bi-annual Camps at St Martins Plain in Folkstone so everyone has eagerly kept in touch with his progress. All the Cadets and Staff hope he will be able to join 2028 in 2011 at their next Squadron Camp.
It is therefore with great pleasure that all at 2028 Squadron congratulate him on his Commission in the Royal Navy. He will serve at HMS Sultan, the Royal Navy Engineering and Survival School , until being posted to Devonport which is the largest Naval Base in Western Europe , in the New Year.
Flight Lieutenant Moreton CO of 2028 Squadron commented on hearing the news,” We were surprised when Dougie Styles joined the Royal Navy but we are very proud of his progress and recent successes. I hope we can say that we played a small part in his future development during his time as an Air Cadet. We all wish him every success in his new role as an Officer in the Royal Navy."
