On Saturday the 12th July 2008 Staff and Cadets from 2028 Southam Squadron attended a local Event on the Recreation Ground at Southam called ‘Fun in the Sun.’ The occasion was all part of a year long celebration of youth, by bringing together communities all over the Country to just have fun together and Celebr8.
Many local organisations were represented including the Scouts, local Churches and of course the Air Cadets! The weather on the day was quite good with only the occasional shower, so quite a lot of people turned out. There was music on the sound stage and a wide variety of people to chat to as the afternoon went on.
The Cadets not only helped with the organisation of the Stalls but also took the opportunity to recruit among the hundreds of people young and old who attended the event. No fewer than 12 or so young people showed an interest in the Air Cadets.
The day presented 2028 Squadron with another opportunity to take part in local Community events and once again a number of local Councillors and others took time to speak to the Cadets and Staff.
Flight Lieutenant Moreton, Squadron Commander of 2028 Squadron, commented, “These events are so important for us, they provide an opportunity to become involved in our community and hopefully gain a few recruits at the same time. The whole aim of Celebr8 is to bring people of all ages together and literally celebrate what we all have to offer one another.”
