On Thursday November 11 th 2010 Cadets from 2028 Southam Squadron visited the British Legion Care Home at Galanos House in Southam. 14 Cadets in uniform were given permission to leave School and be with the residents for the morning to join with them in remembering those of their comrades who had been injured or killed in the two world wars.
Indeed most if not all of the men and women at the Care Home have served in the Armed Forces. The idea came from the Cadets themselves and this repeated a visit by 2028 Squadron last year on the 11 th November, 2010 .
The Cadets marched in to the main lounge and observed the short service before joining the residents and guests for refreshments. To have young people in uniform take time to sit and chat with them or simply listen to the many inspiring stories they have to tell is now an important part of the year at Galanos House.
Flight Sergeant Callum Brown, senior Cadet of Southam Squadron, remarked on leaving the Care Home, “This is the second year we have joined the residents on Armistice Day and I know our Squadron Commander would be very proud of the way the Cadets conducted themselves. He is very keen for us to be involved in our community and what a special day for us to do just that with the veterans at Galanos House.”
Flight Lieutenant Moreton, CO of 2028 Squadron commented, “This time of the year is very poignant for the residents at Galanos House and so I hope in a small way that having the Cadets with them for a few hours, including 11am when they and the whole Country takes 2 minutes to remember, is very important to them and demonstrates how much the young of today value their sacrifices.”
