Cadet Gemma Davies gets her Recruiting Article Published

Throughout 2009, 2028 (Southam) Squadron made every effort to invite potential new recruits to join the Squadron. This proved to be very successful during what was a time of upheaval and regeneration after the Squadron had moved location. Never one to sit back the Squadron Commander asked every Cadet to continue to recruit new people at the start of 2010 and one in particular took it on herself to start the new year by writing an article which she hoped would be published in local papers.

On Friday the 26 th February 2010 her article was published in the Leamington Courier and already the Squadron has received enquiries from potential recruits.

Flight Lieutenant Moreton, the Commanding Officer of 2028 Squadron commented on hearing the article had been published, "Cadet Gemma Davies is a very articulate young person and told me earlier in the year that she was writing a piece on the Air Cadets for the local paper. She should be very proud of herself."

Gemma Davies article –

Fancy A New Hobby?

Cdt Cpl Gemma Davies “Lads and ladies, ditch the hoodies, forget about COD (Call of Duty) and help yourselves by getting your parents of your back. Have you ever thought about joining the Air Cadets?

You may be thinking, ‘this isn't really my thing.' But don't judge a book by its cover!'

Since joining the Air Cadets at 2028 Southam Squadron I have been offered the chance to get involved in things I otherwise would not have been able to. I've been flying and gliding a favourable cluster of experiences for many Cadets and an adrenaline rush offered at no cost. Shooting – another action packed and addictive experience full of fun.

It offers the Duke of Edinburgh 's Award where numerous Cadets have successfully reached Gold level. Camping, sports, first aid, classroom training and the opportunity to move up the ranks from Cadet to Cadet Flight Sergeant is offered through hard work giving responsibility.

Many Cadets find it a great help academically, you can achieve a BTEC in Aviation studies and a First Diploma in Public Services and also work for a Certificate from the CVQO. All this is offered through training.

Being part of the Air Training Corps offers so much more than a uniform to be worn with pride and perfect drill on the parade square. It involves commitment and working as part of a team.

So, like the sound of that?

Want a challenge and get to know other young people who have similar ambition?”
