On Saturday the 12th February 2011 four Cadets from 2028 Southam Squadron went gliding at 637 VGS at Little Rissington. Three of the Cadets had never been gliding before and they were really looking forward to the experience. With only four slots available to 2028 they were keen to enjoy the afternoon and report back to the rest of the Squadron.
They arrived at 1200 hours and after briefing and getting into their coveralls the first Cadet took to the skies. Cadet Dyer had been before so he knew what to expect but for the other three it was their first opportunity. Fortunately the weather was fine and for the most part, blue skies with a few clouds, so visibility was amazing over Gloucestershire.
Cadet Dyer flew first followed by Helen Colvin, Abigail Ognjanovic and then Adam Thomas. The new ‘fliers' agreed that their first experience at gliding in the Vigilant was amazing and they all want to try again. Just look at some of their faces in the pictures!
Flight Lieutenant Moreton, CO of 2028 Squadron commented, “With Gliding being one of the three Corps activities it is vital we use the slots available to us and being able to use 637 is great, together with the afternoon time as well, it makes it so easy for both Cadets and Staff to attend from Southam. The three new fliers loved it!”
