On Saturday the 14 th January 2012 six Cadets from 2028 Southam Squadron went to 637 VGS at Little Rissington, some of them for the first time. They were all really looking forward to the experience and with limited slots available they were all keen to enjoy the day and report back to the rest of the Squadron on their day. Cadets' Barley-Morey, Skerratt, Stewart, Storer, Cave and Corporal Ognjanovic all attended.
On arrival they were all briefed and after getting into their coveralls the first Cadet took to the skies. Corporal Ognjanovic had been twice before so she knew what to expect but for some of them it was their first opportunity to soar above the blue skies of Gloucestershire. Visibility was amazing with each of the newer Cadets flying for at least 20 minutes and the others between 35 and 50 minutes in the air.
All six Cadets agreed what an amazing experience they had on the Saturday they all want to glide again. The new ‘fliers' agreed that their first experience at gliding in the Vigilant was amazing and Corporal Ognjanovic has now been three times and is looking forward to applying for a Gliding Scholarship.
Flight Lieutenant Moreton, CO of 2028 Squadron commented, ‘ With Gliding being one of the three Corps activities it is vital we use the slots available to us and being able to fly with 637 is great, it is an easy drive from Southam and the weather this time round was perfect for ‘new' and ‘experienced' fliers.'
