On Thursday the 8th October 2009 Flight Lieutenant Moreton CO of 2028 Squadron, accompanied by C.I. Rogers the Squadron D of E and Adventure Training Officer presented a number of 1 Star Kayaking Certificates.
These Awards were achieved by both Cadets and a member of staff back in July 2009 when they attended a day's training at Edgbaston Reservoir in Birmingham . The day had been organised by C.I. Steve Rogers to introduce the Cadets to Kayaking. WO Storer-Rogers also took part in the training. Coaches from Birmingham Canoe Club, one of the UK 's top Clubs had conducted the training throughout the day and the award of the 1 Star Certificates is the culmination of the day's efforts by all concerned.
C.I. Rogers commented, "I have always tried to get the Cadets involved in something different and challenging, these awards to both the Cadets and WO Storer-Rogers demonstrate that they have achieved the right level of skill, my thanks also go to the Birmingham Canoe Club and their coaches without whom this would not have been possible.”
Flight Lieutenant Moreton said, " These awards are something quite different for an Air Cadet but we always try to diversify our activities and I think kayaking is certainly different from the normal!"
