On Monday the 14 th November 2011 the Mayor of Southam, Councillor Mike Gaffney, accompanied by his wife Brenda made an official visit to 2028 Squadron. The Mayor had joined the Cadets, Staff and parents at the Annual Awards Ceremony back in May this year and was very eager to see the Cadets at their Squadron HQ. The Mayor and Mrs Gaffney were greeted by Flight Sergeant Brown and a Guard of Honour of senior Cadets before being welcomed by Flight Lieutenant Moreton, the Squadron Commander.

On moving into the building Councillor Gaffney met the other members of staff and was then invited to inspect the first parade. The Mayor and Mrs Gaffney were then given a tour of the building and shown the IT equipment which is now used to train the Cadets, something the Squadron and Civilian Committee is very proud of. They were also shown the temporary ‘memorial' to ex Cadet Jon Egging.

Flight Lieutenant Moreton then gave the Mayor and Mayoress a briefing on the Air Training Corps and the success of 2028 Squadron over the years. They were very interested and curious to know all about ‘their' Town Squadron and complimented the Cadets and Staff on all they did for their community.

The Mayor then gave a short talk to the Cadets and remarked, “I am sure I speak on behalf of the Town Council when I say that Southam is very proud of 2028 Squadron and all that it has achieved; more recently leading the Remembrance Day Parade with such precision and smartness. You are all a credit to yourselves and your Squadron Commander.”

Flight Lieutenant Moreton commented, “The Mayor and his predecessors have always been great supporters of 2028 Squadron and tonight's visit by Councillor Gaffney has reinforced that message loud and clear. We will continue to be involved in all aspects of our community and I know the Mayor has new ideas for us in 2012”
