On Friday and Saturday the 11 th and 12 th January 2008 Cadets, Staff and members of the Civilian Committee of 2028 Squadron performed Cinderella in the Grange Hall, Southam. The evening performances were in aid of the Warwickshire and Northamptonshire Air Ambulance and Squadron Funds. Both performances were well attended by friends, families and members of the public.
The Pantomime was the culmination of many weeks of hard work both in rehearsal and the building of background sets for the various scenes. Everyone was involved and throughout the time leading up to the actual ‘live' performances many previously unseen talents emerged. Three members of staff and the Civilian Committee Chair, Mr Chris Scriven , became the Narrator, Ugly Sisters and the Fairy, dressed in a way never witnessed before by the Cadets. To raise the funds the spirit of Pantomime was very much alive.
The idea for the Pantomime came from one of the Senior Cadets and she not only wrote the Scripts but Produced and directed the whole event, not an easy task but one which she took on without hesitation. With the total backing of the Squadron Chair and Secretary plus background help with costumes and make up from other committee members and Cadets parents, it proved once again what teamwork is all about.
A raffle was held during the intervals of both performances and refreshments provided which, together with ticket sales, raised a grand total of £964.87.
Lynda Scriven , the Civilian Committee Secretary said after the Saturday performance, “This has been a tremendous challenge for all of us but everyone, the Cadets, Staff and parents have risen to it and produced two performances of Cinderella in public which any amateur dramatic society would be proud of. We have raised a terrific sum of money for the Air Ambulance and Squadron Funds.”
Flight Lieutenant Daryll Moreton, the Squadron Commander commented, “I had some misgivings about giving permission to take on such a big challenge to produce a Pantomime but after watching the Cadets and Staff rehearsing and in particular, Cadet Instructor Sergeant ‘Chess' Scriven, who wrote and produced the whole thing, I now feel very humbled. Once again my Cadets, Staff and Civilian Committee have done a terrific job and firmly placed the Squadron on the map in Southam.” |
