Searching questions asked when Police visited Air Cadet HQ

“You’re Nicked! Mate” The Police have one of the Southam bad lads in cuffs. On Thursday the 2 nd October 2008 two Police Officers from Warwickshire Police paid a Community visit to 2028 (Southam) Squadron. The visit had been arranged through the Operational Task Force of Warwickshire Police Operations Department. The Traffic Officers who attended spent well over an hour with the Cadets, talking to them about road safety and the personal protection equipment they carry.

They also showed them the equipment carried in the two Patrol Cars they brought along. The Cadets were most interested in the unmarked Police Subaru Imprezza which had the latest equipment in it, such as ANPR and a sophisticated speed detection device. The marked patrol car was a Volvo T5 Estate which carries signs and cones to mark the scenes of Road Traffic collisions amongst other items.

Not unsurprisingly some of the Cadets and members of staff were keen to know how fast the Imprezza would go and all of them wanted to see the lighting systems fitted to both patrol cars in action which were pretty impressive!

All of the Cadets and some of the staff asked quite a lot of really searching questions about the Police in general and the two police officers who came along were only too pleased to answer them, demonstrating very quickly a real connection with the young Cadets. One of the Staff 'tested' a pair of handcuffs and one of the Cadets tried out the breathalyser which needless to say proved negative!

Everyone agreed that they had learnt something new about the Police and their job, leaving the Cadets and Staff with a really positive impression of the Police but Traffic Officers in particular.

Flight Lieutenant Moreton said about the visit, "I am very grateful to the two Police officers for taking the time to visit the Squadron and answer some really interesting questions from the cadets, some of which were quite challenging about their job. Community involvement is incredibly important to the Police and reaching these young people is very important."
