Over the weekend of Saturday the 14th and Sunday the 15th March 2008 Cadets from 2028 (Southam) Squadron held the first of their VHF provisional Radio Communications courses. They were lucky enough to have fine weather which allowed them to have both class room based training and outside exercises. The training was run by Adult Sergeant Paul Caine and 19 cadets of all ranks attended. The training ultimately led to their taking a multiple choice exam at the end of the second day. All the Cadets passed, with the majority of the cadets achieving marks of twenty and above out of a possible twenty-five.
Despite the hard work and high level of concentration required, the cadets all enjoyed the course greatly, the warm weather adding to their enjoyment as they took part in radio training exercises outside in the sunshine. The Cadets had a full two days, going home on the Saturday evening and returning early Sunday morning. They are all now looking forward to continuing their training and eventually attaining their communicator's badge.
Sergeant Caine commented after the Course, "I am very pleased with the results, the cadets worked very hard during the weekend which is all the more important for me as they are my Cadets. I was also able to call on the knowledge of some of our Cadets who have already qualified."
Sergeant Caine was assisted during the weekend by Pilot Officer Preece and C.I.Preece.
Pilot Officer Preece commented, "Sergeant Caine put in a great deal of hard work preparing this course and it was excellent to see the cadets matching that effort in their participation."
Flt Lt Moreton, CO of 2028 Squadron, remarked on hearing the results of the successful weekend, "I am extremely pleased with the course and I now look forward to holding many more such courses at 2028 (Southam) Squadron, with places open to cadets from other Squadrons. Sergeant Caine has extensive knowledge of radio and communications and his new skills have opened up another development opportunity for our Cadets."
