On Thursday the 19 th March 2009 members of the RAF Youth Outreach Team visited 2028 Squadron at Southam. They showed the 31 Cadets who attended a number of presentations using both videos and discussion sessions to show them the Royal Air Force and the opportunities open to people wishing to join over the coming years. It also opened the eyes of many of the Adult Staff present who updated themselves on the varying aspects of life in the Royal Air Force, from trades to sports, flying to social activities for both personnel and their families.

The team is actually based at the Royal Air Force College at Cranwell and their main remit is to travel around visiting Schools and Colleges to spread the word about life in the modern Royal Air Force, so for them to visit the Air Cadets as well was a tremendous coup for not only 2028 Squadron but for a number of other Squadrons in Warwickshire and Birmingham Wing.

The team were eager to invite questions from the Cadets throughout their 2 hours at the Squadron which resulted in some of them being given ‘prizes' of various RAF souvenirs.

A number of practical exercises were also set up to directly involve the Cadets in understanding the wide range of jobs available in today's Royal Air Force.

The CO of 2028 Squadron, Flight Lieutenant Moreton, commenting about the visit remarked, “When I was offered the opportunity for the team to visit us I readily agreed and they did not disappoint either me or the cadets. They are very professional and gave the cadets a real and personal insight into the modern day opportunities waiting for anyone joining the Royal Air Force. It also gave my many new cadets the chance to meet regular RAF personnel and chat with them in a relaxed atmosphere.”
