Regional Commandant Visits 2028 (Southam) Squadron

On Thursday the 3 rd June 2010 Group Captain Morrell, Regional Commandant for Central and East Region Air Training Corps made a visit to 2028 Southam Squadron.

The Commandant arrived before the first parade and took the opportunity to see for himself the building and facilities available to Cadets and Staff at 2028. He was greeted by the senior Cadet Flight Sergeant Brown and escorted to meet the CO Flight Lieutenant Moreton. Group Captain Morrell then took the opportunity to check out the facilities available to Cadets and Staff alike at the Squadron and commented on how well maintained everything was and the very good report 2028 had received from the 2009 Annual Inspection.

The CO then invited the Regional Commandant to inspect the Cadets on parade. The Group Captain spoke to every Cadet, asking them about their experiences in the Air Training Corps and what they had enjoyed most since joining. There was no doubt that Flying came top of their answers with sport and ‘blue' camps also getting a mention.

After the first parade and a quick break all the Cadets and Staff joined Group Captain Morrell in the main hall for a ‘forum' where he outlined his ideas for the future and some of the new camps and facilities he hoped would become available in our Region. He made a strong point of mentioning the new Regional Aeronautical Centre at RAFC Cranwell which impressed everyone present. He also spoke to a number of the Cadets about their expressed intentions to join the Army and Royal Air Force and gave them his personal insight into the opportunities they might consider.

Group Captain Morrell had to leave before final parade but thanked everyone for their continued efforts in the Air Training Corps and challenged the CO to reach 50 Cadets on Roll.

Flight Lieutenant Moreton commented after the visit, “It was a real honour and privilege for my Cadets and Staff to have a visit from the Regional Commandant. They all spoke clearly and openly to him when he discussed their time in the ATC with them, they did themselves proud. The weather was fantastic, their personal turnout was a high standard and although I say so myself, the building looked great.”
