2028 Squadron Lead Remembrance Day Parade in Southam 2011

On Sunday the 13th November 2011 twenty two Cadets and members of Staff from 2028 Southam Squadron took part in the Annual Remembrance Day Parade in Southam. Once again, the Cadets were supported by a number of their parents who also attended the Service. The Parade which was under the command of the Squadron Commander, Flight Lieutenant Daryll Moreton, marched from the forming up point in Wood Street, along the Town Centre and into the Parish Church where the Service was to be held. The 2028 Squadron Banner was carried by Cadet Sergeant Alex Caves . The Parade consisted of the British Legion, the Town Mayor, local councilors and representatives of all the local youth organisations led by the Air Training Corps.

Uniform members of Staff on parade, were Flt Lt Moreton, WO Storer-Rogers and Sgt Wildman. Corporal Forrest, the Squadron Service Instructor gave the march off and led the parade through the Town. C.I. Conran-Brown joined the cadets for the church service. C.I. Dyer followed the parade and took photographs of the event.

A wreath was laid during the service on behalf of the ATC by Corporal Hazel Mann and prayers read by Corporal Helen Colvin. Staff Cadet, Flight Sergeant Callum Brown joined a member of the British Legion and read the ‘Exhalation' before the Last Post was sounded and the two minute silence observed. After the service the Cadets from 2028 Squadron lined the path away from the Church together with the British Legion Standards and banners of all the organisations present. A number of Cadets had gone on a trip to the War Graves and the National Memorial Arboretum with others having to work but the total numbers were a significant percentage of the Squadron Roll. After the service a number of members of the public and representatives of the British Legion made a point of complimenting the Cadets on their turnout and marching.

Flight Lieutenant Moreton said afterwards, "The parade is a vital part of the year for us; it is our way of demonstrating to the people of Southam that those who gave their lives both in two world wars and more recent conflicts will always be remembered for their sacrifice in the name of peace. It is a privilege for me to command the parade each year."
