Success at Wing Junior Rugby and Netball Competition for 2028

On Sunday the 6th March 2011 several Cadets from 2028 Southam Squadron joined other Cadets from Warwickshire and Birmingham Wing to travel to RAF Cottesmore for the Netball and Junior Rugby Inter-Wing Competition.

Cpl Hazel Mann from 2028 was part of the Wing Netball Team and scored no less than 15 goals. The team were placed second overall and she returned with her Silver Medal and Wing Blue.

Cpl Alex Caves, Cadet Ethan Dyer and Cadet Adam Thomas were part of the Junior Rugby Team who came third overall and all won their Wing Blues. In fact on this occasion Cpl Caves Captained the Team and scored 3 of the tries. Cadet Thomas also scored a try for the team.

Cpl Mann, Cpl Caves and Cadet Dyer have now been chosen to take part in the Regional Trials to represent Central and East Region.

Once again these Cadets have flown the flag for not just 2028 Squadron but also the Wing. Both Cpl Mann and Cpl Caves have taken part in several sports for a number of years which is fantastic dedication to the Squadron and Wing. In fact Cpl Caves is a multi-disciplined sportsman, including Rugby, Football, Athletics and Swimming to name but a few!

Flight Lieutenant Moreton, CO of 2028 Squadron commented on hearing the news, "Once again Cadets from 2028 Squadron have won Wing Blues for sport, maintaining our record of successes from the last two years. Cpl Alex Caves has added yet another Wing Blue to his collection; he will have to start sewing them to the back of his jacket! He is a great example of someone who can excel at sport in the Corps."
