Once again Mrs Lynda Scriven , Civilian Committee Secretary for 2028 (Southam) Squadron, has triumphed in her continuing efforts to raise funds for the Cadets. After sending a letter to Coventry GO OUTDOORS camping and sports shop Mrs Scriven was pleasantly surprised to receive a call from their manager, Graham inviting her to visit him at the store as he wished to share with her "some good fortune". Very generously, he donated not one, but two top of the range "Bear Lake" tents which retail at £1000 each for use by 2028 (Southam) Sqn.
Graham said " I fully understand the difficulties faced by organisations for young people and the time given by volunteers to keep these facilities open. I am ex-military myself and my daughter was a member of the ATC previously, so I am happy to support and extend good fortune to 2028 Sqn and hope that the cadets and staff will enjoy using the tents for many years to come. GO OUTDOORS receive many requests for financial assistance and unfortunately they cannot respond to all of them, so it is great to see the tents going to such a good cause ".
Lynda Scriven commented " the Squadron are always very grateful for any external support they receive especially in these difficult times of recession; I was totally overwhelmed to be given such a generous donation by GO OUTDOORS at Coventry and would extend my thanks to Graham and his staff on behalf of the cadets and staff of the Squadron. These tents will make a tremendous difference to the Sqn, and will be used during open days, recruitment events, Duke of Edinburgh training and will provide an excellent meeting room for radio training events which are offered by 2028 to other Squadrons; the news of the two tents has caused much excitement and will be a valuable well used piece of kit".
Flight Lieutenant Moreton, CO of 2028 Squadron said on hearing the news,” My Civilian Committee are always looking for opportunities to help us with equipment. To have two state of the art large tents to the value of £2000 donated to us is incredible; they will be great for radio training and will sleep at least 8 people comfortably. My sincere thanks go to Mrs Scriven who has not been well this year but clearly she has still been working hard in the background!”
