For a number of years Cadets from 2028 (Southam) Squadron have maintained a local Heritage Site called the ‘Holywell.’ The Cadets attend on a regular basis to weed and clear any debris from the Well to keep it clean and tidy for the Public to view. The Cadets perform the task as an ongoing Project as part of their Community involvement on behalf of Southam Town Council. The Cadets themselves have always provided their own tools to carry out the maintenance.
Another Project has been to renovate a decommissioned Ejector Seat and once again, the Cadets themselves have provided the tools and cleaning equipment for the project, including building a frame to encase and display the seat more effectively.
The Squadron Civilian Committee decided that they should try and obtain funding to purchase the tools and equipment for the two projects and applied to the Warwickshire County Council Community and Development Fund.
The Squadron has now been informed that the application has been successful and that the funding had been agreed in full.
The Squadron Commander, Flight Lieutenant Moreton said, “This is a perfect example of how the Civilian Committee can help the Cadets in a practical way and at the same time directly involve themselves in our Community Projects.
Mrs Lynda Scriven, the Civilian Committee Secretary said, “The Committee has always tried to help in as practical a way as possible and obtaining the funds for the equipment the Cadets need to maintain such an important Heritage Site as the Holywell is one of the best ways I can think of helping them. They can also look forward to having everything they need to complete the renovation of the Ejector seat.”
