Warrant Officer Derek Docker Retires from the ATC

Warrant Officer Derek Docker Retires from the ATCOn Monday the 8th December 2008 Warrant Officer Derek Docker left 2028 (Southam) Squadron and 'retired' from the Air Training Corps. He was given a traditional 2028 Squadron Court Marshall to send him on his way. The 'Court' convened under the presidency of the CO Flight Lieutenant Moreton with his co-judges, Officer Cadet Preece and CI Halford. Various 'witnesses' were called and both prosecution and defence presented their case to the 'court.'

The 'prosecution' was presented by CI Rogers and as a surprise for Mr Docker; the 'defence' was presented by an ex. Adjutant from 2028 Squadron, Flight Lieutenant Woan of 198 ( Hinckley ) Squadron. There was also a surprise 'witness' Mr. Rob Buckler who had been a CI at 2028 Squadron some years ago.

It is worth noting at this stage that during his time with the ATC Warrant Officer Docker had been the Squadron Weapons Instructor and Range Officer. He was also a member of the Warwickshire and Birmingham Wing Small Arms Training Team and the Wing Training Team. He joined the Air Training Corps as a Cadet and was a Civilian Instructor for 2 years before going into uniform. Warrant Officer Docker is the holder of the Cadet Forces Medal and first clasp and the Queens Golden Jubilee Medal.

At the end of the proceedings judgment was pronounced and punishment imposed. On announcing the judgment of the 'court' Flight Lieutenant Moreton presented Warrant Officer Docker with his 'punishment' which was an engraved plaque showing the ATC Shield and an SA80 Rifle. This produced an eruption of applause from the Court and stunned silence from Mr. Docker!

After the presentation Flight Lieutenant Moreton said, "WO Docker has served both the Squadron and Wing with 100 percent commitment at all times. We will all miss him for his good humour, friendship and above all, his expertise. We all, Cadets, Staff and Civilian Committee, wish him well for the future."
