Following seven years with 2030 (Elmdon & Yardley) Squadron, Cadet Warrant Officer Sam Hanna at the age of twenty has come to the end of his cadet career.
Sam joined the Squadron in 2003 at the age of thirteen, and since then has taken part in just about every activity available to cadets, including completing the Bronze and Silver Duke of Edinburgh's Award, reaching the classification of staff cadet, and completing the BTEC in Public Services.
During the time at the Squadron Sam has attended four annual camps at RAF Marham in 2005, RAFC Cranwell in 2006, RAF Boulmer in 2008, and early this year at RAF Spadeadam. In total visiting eleven different RAF stations. Sam has also attended many green camps at Nesscliff Training Area, including the Land Command Cadet Leadership Course in 2007.
Sam has flown in the Tutor, Vigilant, Dominie, and Sea King aircraft, however the area of most interest is shooting, spending many times on the range gaining experience on cadet weapons, most recently with the L98A2. In January Sam completed the training course to be a Weapon Instructor, and qualified to conduct weapons handling tests.
During his cadet career, Sam has attended seven Wing Field Days, taking the drill team for two of these, a Region Field Day as part of the Wing shooting team, seven remembrance Sunday parades, two battle of Britain parades, various charitable activities raising money for the Poppy Appeal, Wings Appeal, and the County Air Ambulance.
In the past few years Sam has taken part in mountain expeditions in Snowdonia and attended an Engineer Officer work experience course at RAF Cranwell. Also completing his full VHF radio operator, datacomms, and internet module of communcations.
Sam is currently studying Aerospace Engineering at Coventry University , and will stay on with the Squadron as a Civilian Instructor.
