2438 (Bishop Ullathorne) Squadron first opened its doors on 24 March 1964 and was originally formed as a Detached Flight of 8F (1 st City of Coventry ) Squadron.
Initially membership of the Unit was restricted to boys attending the school although school-leavers wishing to continue were allowed to do so. When the formation was announced it resulted in an enthusiastic response and over sixty cadets were enrolled.
The squadron has faced some difficult times over the years but still continues to grow from strength to strength.
To celebrate the 46 th Birthday of this great Squadron the cadets have been participating in a number of fun activities to mark the occasion.
The week of activities started with ice staking and ended with a visit to Birmingham Airport . A collection for Help for Heroes, watching Coventry Bee's race around Coventry 's Speedway track and a birthday party with cake were all sandwich in the middle of the fun packed birthday celebrations.
Flight Lieutenant Nathan Adams the Squadrons commanding officer said “ Considering the Squadron was formed before any of the staff and Cadets were even born it is very encouraging to see that the Air Training Corps still offers a valuable and relevant service to the community, which has enabled 2438 Squadron to still be in existence 46 years later ”
