Eight more GCSE's under the stable belt for two NCOs

CWO James ParkerTwo NCOs from 2438 (Bishop UIlathorne) Sqn have been presented with Level 2 BTEC First Diplomas in Public Services. The Level 2   BTEC First Diploma in Public Services mixes theory and practical elements with an emphasis on leadership, teamwork, communications, problem solving and fitness. This internationally respected qualification is equivalent to 4 GCSEs at A*- C level

CWO James Parker and Cadet Sgt Carter were awarded their BTEC awards after taking part in many activities they needed carry out, from JNCO courses to Duke of Edinburgh awards; from sports to first aid. There were also two sets of written assessments that the NCOs' needed to complete. The written assessment compliments the practical activities and a research based project which allows the cadets to get a better understanding of what a career in the Armed Forces is about. The syllabus has been designed to improve valuable life skills. The NCO's have learnt professional CV preparation, interviewing Cadet Sgt Cartertechniques, communication, first aid, adventure training, health and nutrition. And best of all, it was completely free for the Cadets!

CWO James Parker also had the honor of being one of the top students in the country this year with the award of a Distinction * grade for his work and qualifications through Cadets, including becoming the only current Cadet Glider Pilot on Warwickshire and Birmingham Wing who is able to take Cadets for GIC lessons in the glider.

Not only does this qualification give them 4 extra GCSE's it shows f uture employers and educational based establishments how dedicated these NCOs' are to learning new skills. This could make all the difference to them in gaining a University placement or in their future working careers.

Flight Lieutenant Nathan Adams, Officer Commanding 2438 Squadron said: ' It is always with a tremendous sense of achievement that we are able to watch the Cadets develop and gain new skills as members of 2438 Squadron. With the award of the BTEC First Diploma in Public Services the Cadets are able to put all of those hard earned skills into a qualification that will serve them well throughout their entire adult life, along with the knowledge they have gained as members of the Air Training Corps. Along with the extra 4 GCSE equivalents this award offers it will stand them in a good position for their future careers and job prospects.'
