Flight Sergeant Alan Tillman, of 2438 (Bishop Ullathorne) Squadron has become the first member of Warwickshire and Birmingham Wing to be promoted to Flight Sergeant, the second time in his ATC career he has got to this rank. This is the latest in a long line of promotions for Alan since joining as a Cadet at 8F Squadron in 1993. As a Cadet, amongst many other achievements, Alan reached the rank of Cadet Flight Sergeant. After a short period away from the Corps Alan rejoined 2438 Squadron as a CI in 2001. Missing being in uniform he opted to become a uniformed member of staff at 2438 Squadron. After passing a Wing Boarding, in February 2004,  he became a Sergeant, becoming one of the very first to do so under the then new LASER review arrangements.

Four years later Alan has become a valued member of the Squadron, as Training Officer and Squadron Senior NCO Alan has also been actively involved at a Wing level and has been deservedly promoted. He is seen here being presented with his Flight Sergeant rank slides by the Warwickshire and Birmingham Wing Training and Personnel Officer Squadron Leader Martin Harrison, who said: "It’s an honour to be able to make to first formal promotion to Flight Sergeant on the Wing under the Laser Scheme. It’s all the more important to me as FS Tillman is a valuable member of 2438 Squadron as well as a key player on the Wing Training Team, helping to assess the Junior NCO Leadership Development Courses.  I am sure he will rise to the challenges the new rank offers him"
