Football Poppy Appeal

On Saturday 31 October 2438 (Bishop Ullathorne) Squadron were invited by The Royal British Legion to help sell poppies and raise money for the 2009 Poppy Appeal. They joined ex-service veterans, members of the Royal British Legion and The Army Cadets at the Ricoh Arena to sell the poppies at the Coventry versus Reading game. The collection took place prior to the football match and the cadets circulated around the stadium collecting money and selling the poppies.

During the collection the Cadets got to rub shoulders with the Coventry City team's mascot as well as a number of visiting VIPs. The reception from the public was very good towards the collection, though the amount raised is currently unknown. The Cadets also got the chance to watch what turned out to be a very disappointing game for the home team but the cadets enjoyed it nevertheless .

Flight Lieutenant Nathan Adams, Officer Commanding 2438 Squadron said : 'The Squadron jumped at the chance to help the British Legion raise money for the poppy appeal. This is an important event in the Squadron Calendar and it gives the Cadets the opportunity to recognise the sacrifices made in the name of freedom and to be able to raise vital funds to support the work of the Royal British Legion. I must thank The Royal British Legion for organising tickets to watch the football and to the Cadets for giving up their time for this very worthwhile cause '.
