On Saturday 26 September 2438 (Bishop Ullathorne) Squadron were invited by RAF Careers to help collect money for the Help for Heroes campaign. The collection took place at the Ricoh Arena in Coventry prior to the football match between Coventry City and Middlesbrough . The cadets circulated around the stadium collecting money for Help for Heroes as well as selling Help for Heroes Wristbands. Everyone who donated was given an RAF Careers Banner which helped fans celebrate each goal, as well as promote RAF Careers, who had sponsored the match.
During the collection the Cadets got to rub shoulders with the two sets of football players as well as a number of visiting VIPs. The reception from the public was very good towards the collection and in excess of £1000 pounds was raised for Help for Heroes. The Cadets also got the chance to watch what turned out to be a very thrilling game of football with a last gasp equaliser for the home side.
Flight Lieutenant Nathan Adams, Officer Commanding 2438 Squadron said: 'The Squadron jumped at the chance to raise money for Help for Heroes. Having recently viewed documentaries and news reports on the care provided to severely wounded service personnel returning from overseas operations and the valuable contribution this has to the rehabilitation of the patients we did not hesitate to help RAF Careers in raising money for Help for Heroes. In return I must thank RAF Careers for organising tickets to watch the football and to the Cadets for giving up their time for this very worthwhile cause.' |
